The Shut Down Challenge invites you to avoid any kind of media one hour before bed for 25 days during the next month. This means turning off anything with a screen—computers, tablets, phones, television.
Studies show that media use before bed makes it more difficult to fall asleep or sleep well through the night. In addition to the mental stimulation associated with screen time, the light emitted from the screens themselves mimic daylight, interrupting the body’s normal nighttime release of melatonin, a key component leading to a good night’s sleep.
