People Are Multidimensional—Your Wellbeing Program Should Be, Too

A holistic approach to employee wellbeing considers the whole person—all aspects of professional and personal life and their interconnection. It also meets participants where they are on their individual wellness journeys.

What’s the Difference Between Wellness and Wellbeing?

With growing recognition that people need well-rounded support to be their best selves and do their best work, the traditional definition of employee wellness is expanding. The concept of wellbeing goes beyond the body to encompass a broader set of factors that contribute to overall employee health and happiness. Physical wellness is only one part of a thriving life—and if total employee wellbeing is neglected, it ultimately impacts engagement, productivity, and performance.1

To promote wellbeing vs. just wellness, the WellRight platform incorporates six dimensions—physical, mental/emotional, occupational, social, financial, and purpose—with activities and resources focused on each. Our NCQA-certified Health Risk Assessment (HRA) asks questions about each dimension and identifies specific areas to work on. Participants are then given personalized recommendations for activities and educational resources to engage with at their own pace.

1. Physical Wellbeing

Physical health includes healthy habits in nutrition, exercise, weight management, smoking, hygiene, and sleep. Not only does physical wellbeing increase productivity and reduce absenteeism, it helps stave off preventable chronic disease, lowering healthcare costs.

2. Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing

75% of employees experience at least one symptom of a mental health condition,2 which can affect performance, morale, and retention. WellRight helps employees address mental health challenges as well as healthy ways to manage emotions.

3. Occupational Wellbeing

People who maintain occupational wellbeing typically have work-life balance, find their work rewarding, relate well with co-workers, and develop positive ways to manage workplace stress. They are motivated, engaged, and happy with their career choice, in part thanks to an equally supportive work environment that sets them up for success.

4. Social Wellbeing

Social wellbeing nurtures human connection, collaboration, and company culture. People with a sense of community at work are 66% more likely to stay in their job and contribute to higher trends of engagement and growth.3 A strong sense of belonging and engagement not only benefits individuals but also contributes to overall workplace productivity and satisfaction—ultimately helping employees thrive.

5. Financial Wellbeing

57% of employees say finances are their top cause of stress.4 The subsequent effects of this financial stress are vast, affecting sleep, social relationships, and productivity in the workplace. Educational resources and activities that build employees’ skills in budgeting, saving, and strategic spending can empower them and reduce anxiety.

6. Purpose

70% of employees define their sense of purpose by their work—but only 18% find fulfillment in their current roles.5 The WellRight program prioritizes the inclusion of purpose as a part of the employee wellness journey. We provide activities that help employees uncover purpose, create meaning, and develop goals, individually and with their coworkers, to drive long-term growth.
